Inflation or Deflation?

While I sell Real Estate, I think my natural inclinations are as an investor. And there is literally no place in the investing world where inflation or deflation will cause greater success or havoc, than in the world of Real Estate investment. This is because no other investment allows for such high levels of leverage, and leverage will either make you a hero or a fool depending upon inflation or deflation.

Inflation or deflation is the backdrop upon which all other decisions depend. Accepting that this is the number 1 component to consider when developing an investment strategy, it is needless to say that I spend a lot, probably too much, of my time considering the future financial landscape.

With this obsession in mind, I would like to simply post which people I find most interesting to listen to. There are basically two groups of individuals, the inflationists, and the deflationists. These two groups of people often agree on many, if not almost all things financial. However the final divergence in opinion comes down to whether the destruction of capital occurs a quicker and greater rate than the governments abilities to destroy the value of paper currency.

If is for this reason, that they answer is not yet a known quantity, but an every moving target.

Here are the people I listen to:

Inflationists
Peter Schiff

Deflationists
Karl Denninger
Harry Dent
Robert Schiller

I have found the most valuable insight comes when Peter Schiff debates a deflationist, and they agree on everything, except the outcome.

While there is not definitive answer for the future, I look forward to tracking this great debate.

Who might you listen to as a voice in either category?
